The dog, a "sausage dog" or dachshund, was hungry and abandoned in the middle of an arid and barren place . Where possibly, without the heroic appearance of the cyclist who saved him, he would have died in a few days due to not having food or water nearby. This man picked it up, to later feed it and give it something to drink.
True to his style, the cyclist took the dachshund in his arms, then put him in his backpack, so he could get on his bike and take him with him to a safe place where he can give him the appropriate affection and care.
