Twitter will have its own version of the popular stories and in the future it will also implement live audio chats
First it was Snapchat, then Instagram and the rest of the Facebook properties . Now, even LinkedIn seems to have succumbed to the charms of the ephemeral stories format ; messages, photos and videos that are deleted after 24 hours. Twitter was missing from the list , of course, and today the company announced that it will officially activate fleets , its version of this perishable message function, worldwide .
The fleets are more like a story Instagram than a tweet . They are clearly graphic, they occupy the entire screen and are organized at the top of the new version of the Twitter app with circles that show the photo of the sender. They can contain a tweet, videos or photos and can be decorated with different fonts and colored backgrounds.
Unlike tweets, fleets cannot be 'like' or retweeted ( re- tweeted?), Although they can be replied to. These responses will come as a direct message to the authors, if they allow it.
The function has been in the testing phase in Brazil, Italy, India and South Korea, and Twitter says it has helped many users to be more active on the social network. Twitter has been stagnant in the number of registered users for several years, although it grows in monthly and daily active users.
However, many of these users do not tweet, they are only passive consumers of the messages that are published on the social network. With the new feature, Twitter hopes that many will lose the fear of sharing their thoughts in public, knowing that they cannot be replicated by others and that responses will not be public.
The official Twitter app will receive the new feature on iOS and Android over the next few days.
TWITTER WILL OFFER VOICE CHATS
In addition to fleets , Twitter will begin to offer another function in the coming days: rooms with public and live voice conversations.
Baptized as Audio Spaces, they will be available at first only in some markets and for a small number of users. Twitter will first promote the function among groups that are often victims of harassment on the platform.
These rooms will allow followers to listen to the talks in real time and see automatic transcripts of what is being told, but the administrators of the room will have control at all times who can participate.
In a way, this is a feature reminiscent of the Clubhouse social network, which is currently not open to the public (invitation required) but has become the newest obsession of Silicon Valley venture capitalists.
